About the Item

Pair of English silver and silver gilt rimonim English, c. 1920 Height 37cm, diameter 10cm Forged from luminous silver and enhanced with elegant silver gilt accents, this refined pair of antique Judaica, referred to as Rimonim, function as Torah finials. They adorn the upper extremities of the rollers of a Torah scroll. Crafted by the renowned firm Rosenzweig, Taitelbaum & Co in early twentieth-century England, these ornamentations are resplendent embodiments of their era. They boast a lavishly detailed design and an awe-inspiring radiant polish. Perched atop spherical domes are Stars of David, their points shimmering in a celestial display. The main body of the finials is fashioned in a traditional shape, punctuated by embossed silver sections. These sections disrupt the monotony, introducing visual appeal with their circular friezes of intricate geometric patterns. Hollow crown-shaped chambers adorn both the top and bottom of the finials, further enhancing their regal aesthetics. The structure of the pieces acts as a canvas for two distinct rows of silver gilt embellishments. The upper segment is adorned with intricate lion figures, while the lower section hosts melodious bells in a captivating display. The hollow handles feature delicate Hebrew engravings and are decorated at the base with intricate friezes. Each piece is marked with hallmarks indicating their place of creation, the firm that crafted them and the purity of the silver used. These Rimonim transcend their physical allure, serving not merely as ornamental pieces but as symbolic artefacts that encapsulate the profound traditions and spiritual tenets of the Judaic faith. Their inherent beauty, coupled with their religious significance, makes them especially captivating to those who value antique Judaica but also to appreciators of quality silver making.
