Stunning religious wall panel in thick relief with strong hook for easy mounting.
For the collectors of stunning antique church relics we are also offering this marvelously hand carved pelican sculpture for wall mounting. The character ascribed to the pelican in this context is nearly as fabulous as that of the phœnix. From a clumsy, gluttonous, piscivorous water-bird, it was by the growth of legends transformed into a mystic emblem of Christ, whom Dante terms "Nostro Pelicano". St. Hieronymus gives the story of the pelican restoring its young ones destroyed by serpents as an illustration of the destruction of man by the old Serpent, and his salvation by the blood of Christ. The pelican in Christian art is an emblem of Jesus Christ, by "whose blood we are healed" and it is also a symbol of charity. Many early painters and carvers mistakenly represented it more similar to an eagle (much like in this antique church relic), and not as a natural pelican which is why most people today still are a bit confused at first when this stunning hand carved, symbolic bird is called a pelican.

This handcrafted and probably unique Gothic Revival wall cabinet from the late 1800s is another one of our magnificent recent finds. The size, the quality in the large amount of hand-carved Gothic details, the patina and the excellent condition make this another perfect purchase for collectors of this ancient and highly decorative style. The overal design, including the Gothic church window in the door, is right up there with the best we have seen to date. However, what makes this Gothic work of beauty really stand out for us, is the combination of the patina of the light tiger oak and the perfect condition, green cathedral glass panel in the door. That combination truly is a joy to look at. The door, by the way, still opens and shuts tight perfectly and it comes with a perfect working lock and key. Have you also noticed the original, gilt bronze lock plate? That is a work of art in its own right. The clean inside of this cabinet comes with two removable, solid oak shelves and the inside of the door is veneered with a wonderful bird's eye maple. The rare one-of-a-kind ecclesiastical work, circa 1750, hand carved from a single large log, with exceptionally fine detailing throughout, gessoed, polychrome decorated, and richly gilded, modeled as standing Jesus figure with sculpted draped garbs, carrying a superbly textured lamb over His shoulders, partial hollowed open verso, rising on plinth base.

This beautiful antique Holy Bible was printed in the United Kingdom by Blackie and Son dated 1864. Black leather bound, the bible flaunts an engraved and embossed gilt covering with a center medallion, and the spine is engraved with "Holy Bible". Entitled "Brown's Self-Interpreting Family Bible," with numerous additional notes by the Reverend Henry Cooke, the Holy book contains the Old and New Testaments, marginal references and illustrations, a summary of the several books,an analysis of each chapter, a paraphrase and evangelical reflections upon the most important passages, and numerous explanatory notes explanatory notes, and evangelical reflections by the famous Reverend John Brown.
