About the Item

This listing is for one of two 19th century Ninos. If you 'd like to purchase just one. Please specify “Left Niño” or “Right Niño” if purchasing individually. Left Niño – Sleeping Christ Child with Bird (3.5 x 2.5 x 7 in): Origin: Guatemala Medium: Wood, Gesso, Polychrome, Metal, Glass Eyes A tender and emotionally resonant depiction of the sleeping Christ Child cradling a bird—symbolizing both innocence and the foreshadowing of future sacrifice. This finely carved figure is rendered in wood and finished with a layer of gesso and richly polychromed paint, creating lifelike skin tones and delicate features. It retains its original gloria—a halo made of silver and metal, adorned with radiating stars. Noted imperfections include one chipped finger and a broken toe, consistent with its age and devotional use. Right Niño – Primitive Guatemalan Christ Child (3 x 2 x 5 in): Origin: Guatemala Medium: Wood, Gesso, Polychrome, Metal, Glass Eyes A more rustic example of Guatemalan devotional art, this Niño is notable for its primitive carving style and earthy coloration. It features striking glass eyes and a soulful expression. The figure shows paint loss and a few chipped fingers, but retains a beautiful presence and historic character. A compelling piece for collectors of folk Catholicism and Central American religious artifacts. Left Nino: Sleeping Nino holding a bird is a tender and bittersweet image — celebrating the innocence and divinity of Jesus as a child, but also hinting quietly at his future sacrifice to save humanity. This Nino is made from wood with a layer of gesso richly polychromed to create lifelike skin tones and details. One chipped finger and one broken toe Its gloria is made from metal and silver and is surrounded by stars. It measures 3.5x2.5x7 long

Two 19th Century Spanish Colonial Brass Slipper Stirrups
Located in Stamford, CT
Two great examples of 18th century Spanish Colonial slipper stirrups. Not a pair, each similar yet different. One is brass with a lovely floral decoration, the other a rare copper type with a simple incised design. Both with a wonderful patina that only comes with real age and use. These definitely put in some serious miles. Possibly used in battle, or just to protect the rider from bramble. Imagine what these pieces of history may have witnessed. Unique gift for the equestrian or collector of horse memorabilia...
