This is an antique vineyard setter's compass. A French, brass surveyor's instrument with mahogany case and stand, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900. Measure out your plot with this delightful antique surveyor's compass Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order Brass case shows appealing golden tones, with an attractive polished finish Set within a quality mahogany case, dressed with a brass handle and rotating clasps Dashing cylindrical form with a large compass dial set within the top surface Vernier adjustment dials to the trailing edge, with a sliding needle lock to one side Compass winds in French - Nord, Est, Sud and Ouest and the intercardinal points NE, SE, SO and NO Blue magnetic point with a silvered setting hand, and degree marks to the circumference Barrel engraved with the maker's mark 'H. Morin, 11 Rue Dulong, Paris' Mounts upon a turned support with wide circular base Maker's engraving to case lid and label situated within the lid reverse The stand base dressed with a protective baize in bright emerald green This is a superb antique vineyard setter's compass, with a quality finish and charming French annotations to the large dial.
