About the Item
Even Maria Pergay would have to respect the quality and artfulness of the brass-work on this wall hanging in the form of a stirrup suspended from a buckled harness made of hand riveted sheets of brass.
Unusually, the brass strap is engraved with temperature scales in both Celcius and Réaumur.
Under the Reaumur temperature scale the freezing point and boiling points of water are defined as 0 and 80 degrees respectively.
The strap holds a 4 inch mercury-in-glass thermometer with 3/8 inch bulb. Note the hole cut into the brass to allow the thermometer to sit flush.
The stirrup is applied with decorative horsebit elements.
Terribly chic with design elements of Hermes, Jacques Adnet and Lonchamps.
