About the Item

1960s Model Pat Curren big wave ‘Elephant Gun’ surfboard. Features an iconic late 1960s big wave design made for riding giants. Pintail shape with custom foam blank with old growth redwood single fin, redwood stringer, and extra strength Volan fiberglassing. Hand made by the late Pat Curren (1932-2023) in 2009. In the 1950s-60s, Curren was known as a pioneer of riding the biggest waves known to exist and was the most revered big wave surfboard maker in the world. He was also father to three-time World Champion of Surfing, Tom Curren. A recent auction result for a hand made Pat Curren surfboard includes a 1994 balsa surfboard made by Curren which sold for $54,000 at a 2022 auction. This surfboard represents a seldom offered opportunity to own one of the most coveted and rare big wave surfboards in the world, hand shaped by the late Pat Curren (1932-2023).
