About the Item

A large and impressive Jesus College, Cambridge University Rowing Presentation salt glazed pottery tyg by Brampton dated 1869. The large stoneware tyg is of cylindrical shape standing on a flat round base and is applied with three large molded grey hound handles with the body decorated in relief with hunting, drinking and smoking scenes. The tyg is applied with silver plated rim which is engraved between the handles to the rim with Jesus College Trial Fours 1869 with the names D.A.V. Colt Williams (Bow); J. Jones 2; R.E. Morgan 3; E.J, Rees Stroke and with the crest of the college to the third side. The tyg has a brown glazed finish to the upper section with a natural salt glazed finish to the rest of the body. With three makers marks impressed to the base. A unique piece and wonderful piece of Cambridge University history. Measurement of the width between the outer handles is 26cm. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market Offered in very good presentable condition however has had some professional restoration to the handles and upper body. Although this has been well executed. Wear to the silver plate.
