Anglers Collection Fifty (50) Antique Hand Carved And Signed Wood Fishing Lures- Rare Find
A museum collection complete with original antique wooden collector lacquered cabinet , kodansu
An unusual one-of-a-kind find collection consisting of fifty (50) Japanese antique fishing lures hand carved, painted and nestled in their original collector lacquered cabinet kodansu. Most are individually signed on their bottom and most retain their 12 barb hooks, glass eyes, lead weights (one includes old copper coins!) , and date to the Taisho period, early 20th century.
Dimensions: cabinet is 12 inches high and 13.5 inches wide, eight drawers
lures are 4 inches to 7 inches in length
This is the first collection of Japanese antique lures we have seen and represents a remarkable opportunity for the fishing enthusiast. Lure shapes include minnows and flat fish plain and hand decorated and appear to be hand carved from matsu pine.

The boxwood netsuke finely carved as a kneeling Noh dancer dressed in striking geometric patterned robes. The actor holds an opened war fan behind their back in one hand, a Shinto wand slung over the shoulder in the other.
The war fan, tessen, decorated in red lacquer with a golden rising sun at the center. Tessen were sturdy fans used by samurai as protective devices, and sometimes as weapons.
The wand, called an onusa, is a traditional Shinto ritual implement comprised of folded paper streamers, shide, attached to a wooden wand, often used in purification rituals. Here, the shide are crafted from silver maki-e, with the handle of the natural boxwood.
