Vintage Two Piece Hardy Bros. Split Cane Fly Rod, Featherweight Perfection. The Hardy 'Featherweight' is a split cane Palakona 2-piece rod made by Hardy's of Alnwick. The rod is in good used condition with green silk whippings, suction joints, adjustable alloy screw grip reel holder with spanner, 10 ½" cork handle. It has the registration number E90976 dating it to 1953. The rod is 9 ft long has the painted black inscription spiralling around the shaft 'the 'Featherweight Perfection', 'Palakona' and 'Regd. Trade Mark'. The butt and end rings are Agate, intermediate are 'full open' rings. Comes in a Hardy's canvas bag with paper label on 'Care Of Rods'. Hardy's say about the rod: The "Featherweight Perfection" Fly Rods A light model of the 'Perfection' Rod, a perfect ladies rod. Specification Action: Inclined easy for general fly. Pieces: Two with one top. 'Palakona' split-bamboo. Handle: 10 ½ ins cork covered, shaped. Joints: suction. Rings: Butt and end Agatipe, intermediate "Fullopen" bridge. Tyings: Ordianary spaced narrow bands, green silk. Reel fittings and furnishings: Adjustable 'Screw-Grip' and cork covered housing. Container: Proofed cloth partition bag with pocket for stoppers.
