About the Item

Piero Fornasetti was an Italian painter, sculptor, decorator, and craftsman who used ornamental and pictorial motifs to decorate silk scarves, furniture, plates, vessels, and similar objects. His work was characterized by a clever, surreal, and whimsical aesthetic. Fornasetti's work was influenced by Greek and Roman architecture, surrealism, and metaphysical art. Piero Fornasetti opened in the 1930s in Milan the "Stamperia d'Arte Fornasetti," an art print shop. A key moment in the founding of the company was the meeting between Piero and Gio Ponti in the 1940s, which led to the opening of Atelier Fornasetti. Here we have a beautiful decorative screen, lacquered wood structure with the Gran Coromandel decoration on one side, the other side of the screen has a different decoration in shades of blue. Designed and produced by Fornasetti in 1958. In very good condition and fully original. Published in: B. Fornasetti, M. Casadio, Fornasetti, la bottega fantastica, p. 440, figure 41, Electa, 2009.
