Antique French Folding Screen / Room Divider, Gobelin Tapestry Fabric, 1850s

About the Item

An extraordinary and rare 19th-century French folding screen, this piece is a fine example of 19th-century decorative arts, featuring luxurious Gobelin tapestry fabric in vibrant, earthy tones. Crafted circa 1850, the screen consists of six articulated panels, each covered with an intricately woven tapestry depicting lush botanical scenes distribute with figures, animals, and classical motifs. The tapestry is rich with symbolism and storytelling—grapevines, blooming florals, and oversized foliage surround romanticized depictions of noblemen, dogs, and birds, evoking the spirit of Renaissance and Baroque pastoral scenes. The dominant palette includes deep forest green, golden ochre, indigo, and rust, creating a striking yet harmonious visual. The panels are connected with original hand-forged brass hinges, and the frame edges are subtly accented, enhancing the textile's presence without distraction. The screen folds with ease and can be used both functionally and decoratively—as a privacy divider, room accent. This lovely room divider will complement many interior styles. A modern, antique, classic, Scandinavian or an Art Deco home decor.
