About the Item

French Mid-Century Modern neoclassical screen / room divider in gilt wrought iron faux bamboo by Maison Baguès, circa 1940-1950. The elegant piece is composed of 4 panels with each panel (17.5" W x 71" H) capable of flexing as needed to suit the composition of the room. The piece offers a unique combination of gilt iron faux bamboo materials with a modern, transparent feel and practical usability. Rental is possible. *** Parisian, Maison Bagues was founded by Noël Baguès in 1860. Initially specialising in bronzes, the Company began producing lighting when son Eugène joined in 1880. It became famous internationally as a creator of art lighting. In the years between the World Wars, grandsons Victor & Robert expanded the business with many highly sophisticated bronze and iron items, including furniture, stairway banisters & metal gates. Today the Company remains, for many decorators, a synonym of elegance and a guarantee of excellence. Iron and bronze are shaped according to traditional techniques. Chandeliers, lamps and wall sconces are leaf gilt gold or silver leaf, and the crystals are hand assembled. Metals are shaped according to traditional techniques. Baguès essentially `decorated` Paris at the start of last Century, including the oceanliner l’Atlantique, the 1925 Paris Exposition Universelle, the 1934 Salon de la Lumiere and the 1937 Exposition Universelle des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne.
