About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this circa 1800 Georgian Fruitwood ornately hand carved fire place screen with period tapestry A very fine, ornately carved and decorative screen, I’ve never seen one this detailed before, the craftsmanship is simply sublime I bought this at a high end antiques fair years ago, my wife wanted to replace the tapestry with a mirror and display it on a specially built stand so you can really enjoy just how sublime the carving is, I talked her out of it as the tapestry is original, as such she moved on to other pieces and this was left to me I have enjoyed its company in my workshop for some time, now it needs moving on to a move glamorous setting befitting its quality The piece was lightly French polished some time ago, we have waxed and polished it since, the carving is all in good order, there are some patina marks here and there but nothing you wouldn’t expect from a 220+ year old piece. The backing paper is worn and distressed Dimensions: Height 136cm Width 84cm Depth 45.5cm This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
