Unique and highly decorative, work of art folding screen, circa 1880. If you collect only the best quality and best condition antiques in general and those from the European Renaissance Revival era in particular then this amazing workmanship and truly decorative folding screen from circa 1880 probably is the best antique that money can buy. All hand carved out of the most beautiful quality walnut and with amazing details this -by far- is the best folding screen we have ever seen. Besides being the thickest and made of the most beautiful walnut, it also has the best carvings. On top of every corner of this one of a kind folding screen is a small bust sculpture of the finest quality. Those bust sculptures, among others, depict a servant and a maid, a merchant and a merchant's wife, a noble man and woman, a soldier and possibly the soldier's wife and all those finest quality sculptures too prove that this antique screen can only be the work of a master carver. A humble one at that, because there is no maker's mark to be found anywhere. And if the Renaissance busts have not convinced you then the museum quality carvings between them will. The patina of the warm colored walnut too is even more beautiful in real life than in our photos. To make things complete, even the 140 year old hand-embroidery inside each panel that, to us, depicts the tree of life. They come with beautiful colors and details and they too are in superb condition still. With this antique being as thick as it is and 'equiped' with the strongest hinges we ever saw, this not only is the most strong and stable screen we ever laid our eyes on, with an amazing 95 pounds it also is the heaviest. By the way, the top quality bronze or brass hinges make it possible to fold every screen in both directions. There are some tears in the fabric on the back of two of the panels (consistent with age and use), but it is safe to say that this unique and stunning Renaissance folding screen is of museum quality and condition.
