About the Item
A large Haagse School 1920s umbrella stand with a geometric, modernist design. The stand is solid oak with subtle decorations and stretchers in macassar ebony. Symmetric and very stylish. The metal black lacquered dripping tray has compartments to keep umbrella's and canes upright and is removable for cleaning.
The style is called ''Haagse School'' (The Hague School), which stands for the luxurious and modern design style that manifested itself in 1920s The Hague, Netherlands. The Hague School is a variant of Art Deco. The style is recognizable by the geometric shapes of the furniture that reflect the architecture of the time. The Hague School is often seen as a mix of Berlage's rationalism, the traditional Arts and Crafts Movement, the modernist interiors of Frank Lloyd Wright, Rietveld and the avant-garde movement De Stijl.
