Umbrella stand by P.E.L. Izeren for Genneper Molen, Dutch Art Deco, 1920s

About the Item

A large Haagse School 1920s umbrella stand by P.E.L. Izeren, modernist design, marked with Genneper Molen Stamp. This is no. 276 from ''De Genneper Molen'' product catalogue. The stand is solid oak with rich decorations and stretchers in macassar ebony. Symmetric and the same back and front. The red lacquered metal tray is original and lightly restored, now waterproof and ready to use. The style is called ''Haagse School'' (The Hague School), which stands for the luxurious and modern design style that manifested itself in 1920s The Hague, Netherlands. The Hague School is a variant of Art Deco. The style is recognizable by the geometric shapes of the furniture that reflect the architecture of the time. The Hague School is often seen as a mix of Berlage's rationalism, the traditional Arts and Crafts Movement, the modernist interiors of Frank Lloyd Wright, Rietveld and the avant-garde movement De Stijl. This stand will be a stylish and elegant Dutch Art Deco eye catcher in a large entrance or reception area. It is around 60 cm in height, almost 78 cm wide and 25 cm deep. It is in excellent condition, with small signs of age and wear. Pictures all taken in natural light and in sunlight.

  • Dutch Art Deco desk lamp by Daalderop, 1920s
    By Daalderop KDM Royal Holland
    Located in EVERDINGEN, NL
A rare Dutch Art Deco table lamp or bedside light by Dutch manufacturer Daalderop, c. 1925. The piece is in excellent condition regarding its age. These lamps were produced in brass and nickel plate. This one is the nickel version. The lampshade is made of painted parchment, and is reminiscent of batik (tie-dyed) designs by Bogtman. The top can come off to change the lightbulb. Because of punched holes in the top as well as the bottom the light shines through these holes when placed in a dark room, which has a lovely effect on the surrounding surface. These holes had an aesthetic function as well as necessary in those times for the heat of the (incandescent) lightbulb to escape. It now works with modern energy efficient (E27) lightbulbs. The one that is now inside will be included. The Daalderop factory was founded in 1880 by J.N. Daalderop. in the eraly years they produced household items like tableware, pots and dishes, kettles, and gas lamps. The style of the products evolved towards that of art deco and the Amsterdam School. At the end of the 1930s, the company had approximately a thousand employees, making it one of the largest employers in Tiel. The family business was under the undisputed leadership of Johan Daalderop (1883-1961). Until the Second World War their most important designer was Meine Huisenga. Klaas van Aken was also one of the designers. The lamp is depicted in the Dutch Art Deco/Art Nouveau guide...
