About the Item

Saddlecloth in Tibetan wool with leather eyelets circa the 1870s. Decorated with floral motifs both in medallions and in rich borders. The peony, which is depicted in the medallions, is a symbol of nobility and refinement. In yin and yang, the peony positively influences the harmonious life of man and woman. Symbol of love and affection, it is also the bearer of prosperity, honour, value and nobility of soul. The peony bodes well for economic prosperity and business fortune. In the East, the peony flower is revered as a bearer of good wishes. The decorative element of the edges is that of the stormy sea with diagonal waves of various trends and colours crowned with foam: a decidedly suggestive motif, an expression of strength and positive energy.
