About the Item

This antique, circa 1900, Karabagh runner has a charcoal black field with an overall tomato-red, buff-brown and mole-brown herati-pattern, in a narrow tomato-red border of scrolling acanthus leaf and floral vine, inner triple indigo-blue, raspberry-red and tomato-red meandering floral and ribbon stripes, outer mole-brey and apricot reciprocal skittle-pattern stripe. Karabagh rugs, originating from the Karabagh region in the South Caucasus (now part of modern-day Azerbaijan and Armenia), are renowned for their rich colors, bold geometric patterns, and intricate floral designs. These rugs reflect a blend of Persian, Turkish, and Caucasian influences, often featuring medallions, stylized animals, and vivid motifs. Traditionally handwoven using wool, Karabagh rugs are prized for their craftsmanship and durability, making them valuable both as functional items and as works of art. Their unique aesthetic has made them highly collectible among antique and textile enthusiasts worldwide.
