Hand knotted in wool originating from China, circa 1920, this antique rug connotes a Peking Art Deco design in a rich traditional pallet of beige and brown colorways, with subtle notes of taupe gray gracefully drawing the eye to the refinement of the pattern in field and border alike. Designers will note the near-perfect square dimensions of this 5’9 x 5’11 piece lending to its versatility, likewise connoisseurs will remark the emphasis of cloudband and lotus motifs in the medallion, its respective corner spandrels, and the inner border, all of which sport a curvilinear beauty in juxtaposition to the more pronounced rectilinear Deco elements of the piece. A tasteful abrash radiates subtle from the field background and richer brown guard border in kind, though collectors will note the near-pristine condition of this Art Deco rug ideal to designers and archivists seeking an Oriental rug with the most idyllic traits of the Peking rug family.
