Pekingese Rug #162

About the Item

The carpet is of Chinese origin, and is characteristic of the oriental manufacturing style of the late Qing Dynasty, produced in the city of Beijing, one of the largest centers of textile manufacturing. The deep blue background is a distinctive feature of Beijing carpets. The colors were obtained from natural dyes, and the details and borders in golden or light beige shades create a strong contrast, emphasizing the decorative motifs. Central medallions with motifs inspired by landscapes, flowers or auspicious symbols are found in many Beijing carpets. Hand knotted wool
