Throne Back Cover with Lion Dogs

About the Item

A rare example of Ningxia Chinese throne back cover of Imperial quality in pristine condition. A true gem distinguished by a plethora of shades of red, blue and yellow depicting a pair of superbly drawn lion dogs, auspicious symbols of protection and power, flanking a lotus flower with tendrils, symbol of purity. The rose red wool of the background is most probably dyed with logwood. This piece is featured in our current web exhibition entitled 'Hunting and Gathering - China, Tibet & East Turkestan'.
