George Wells Hooked Rug

About the Item

A hooked rug by George Wells Ruggery of Long Island, New York, depicting three Siamese cats amongst ferns and flowers. Each feline is studing a butterfly. Established in 1920, The Ruggery specializes in creating custom designed hand hooked rugs for people who appreciate superb quality and distinctive design. George Wells purchased the Ruggery in 1956. By this time, Wells had been hooking rugs for quite awhile, and his abstract designs marked the beginning of a new style of rug making. His work was widly exhibited and received top awards in national competitions including awards from the National Designer Craftsman Exhibition, New York Architectural League and the American Institute of Decorators, among others.
