Antique Lavar Kerman Rug
About the Item
Finely woven, this Lavar quality large scatter from the famous SE Persian rug weaving center of Kerman, shows the characteristic cochineal scarlet field very closely covered by split arabesques, scalloped ovals, escutcheons and a wide variety of floriate and foliate sprays in ivory, pistachio, light blue and sky blue, among other tones. The scarlet cartouches of the cream main border displays poetic Persian calligraphy. The condition is fair, but the pile has ups and downs consistent with selective usage and dye variability. The natural dyes are vary well preserved.
