About the Item

The most dramatic of the Gerous ( Garrus, Gerus, Garus ) carpets are those with an “asymmetric” design. Only a section of the original is shown, in the same way, many Lotto carpets were woven. It is difficult to guess the Size of these carpets from a photo, but here we enter the area of the “Wagireh-Style” carpet. These pieces have often been described as wagirehs or samplers and were said to have been used as weaver`s aids, or for demonstration purposes, made as a template or pattern for the carpet design and production of larger rugs, they are generally small pieces the Size of a scatter rug or mat. This seems unlikely as most of these carpets are often at least 2 x 3 meters, and even larger sizes are known. A weaver could not deal with such measures as a work aid, for which smaller mats were available, and a salesperson would have presented original carpets. It seems clear that the “Wagireh-Style” designs are complete carpets. Other types of Bidjar ( Bijar ) carpets were also thus a woven-a group of medallion-palmette carpets. The design of this rug is interpreted by our designers, and soft colors are chosen for this rug. Color summary: 12 colors in total, most used 4 colors are; Emerald Green 407 (Chamomile – Indigo) Midnight Blue 347 (Spurge – Madder Root – Indigo) Congo Pink 306 (Madder Root) Olive Green 425 (Dyer’s Weed) Group: Northwest Persia Rugs Family Area: Bidjar region Material of Pile: Natural Dyed Hand-spun Wool Material Warp / Weft: Wool on Wool Structure: Symmetrical knot on depressed warp inclining to the right Knots Density: 45x39 Production Place: Southeastern Anatolia – Diyarbakir Stock Location: Tokyo Size (EU): 79 X 50cm Size (US): 2'7" X 1'7" Area (EU): 0.4m² Area (US): 4.3ft².

Ararat Rugs Garrus Bidjar Medallion Carpet 19th Century Revival Rug Natural Dyed
By Ararat Rugs
Located in Tokyo, JP
This is a central medallion carpet designed 19th century in Garrus ( Gerous or Garus ) region, Eastern Kurdistan area. Garrus is located in the foothills approaching the flatlands of Persia, Garrus has been a significant Kurdish city since antiquity when it was the capital of Media Minor. Important writers, scientists, and politicians from Garrus contributed to the Safavid dynasty, and it was a major commercial center. Garrus was more populous than Senna in the nineteenth century. As it was in the west of Persia, it was fortunate to escape the ravages of the Afghans and to a certain extent the economic incompetence of Nadir Shah. In the eighteenth century, it benefited from the lack of a centralized Persian government bent on collecting high taxes, and from the benign, decentralized rule of the Zands. The brilliant weaving school of Garrus, like that of Senna, did not develop in a vacuum in a process of deus ex machina...
