Tribal Persian Malayer Rug, circa 1940s

About the Item

Unusually and illegibly inscribed, this west Persian village scatter shows a significantly abrashed sienna brown field with a characteristic Malayer version of the Herati pattern in which the defining lozenges have been grouped into three columns and the 'fish' leaves are simplified. The sand border jogs in one corner and displays various palmettes, some nearly invisible.
