About the Item

This hand-woven Tribal Shiraz Qashqai rug was made in Iran during the 1940s. Dyed in shades of red, blue and green. The center of the rug is a triple geometric medallion. It is a nomadic type of rug, it can be easily rolled or folded and moved quickly. Qashqai Shiraz is a term referring to the rugs woven by the Qashqai tribes living in the Shiraz region in southwestern Iran. These rugs are made by the nomadic Qashqai tribes who migrate along the southern regions of Iran, especially around the city of Shiraz. Weaving is an important part of Qashqai culture and is an integral part of their daily life. These rugs are made mainly by women and are an expression of their skill and imagination. Qashqai weavers have a saying that their home is where they are with their rug and that they are always at home with their rug. Qashqai Shiraz rugs are known for their geometric designs, often incorporating rhombuses, hexagons and rectangles. These designs can include stylized animals, birds, people and plants. They often feature a central medallion surrounded by repeating geometric patterns. Other common designs include stylized trees, flowers and shrubs, which can symbolize nature, life and fertility. These rugs are characterized by their vibrant colors. Typical colors are deep red, dark blue, orange, yellow and cream. Traditionally obtained from natural dyes, which give them depth and durability. Qashqai rugs are usually woven from high quality wool, which is dense and strong. They are woven using a symmetrical knot technique, the Persian or Senneh knot, which gives them durability and precision in the reproduction of the patterns. They are hand-knotted rugs, which makes each piece unique. Qashqai Shiraz rugs are valued for their quality, strength and durability. They are excellent examples of traditional Iranian craftsmanship, combining aesthetics, durability and deep cultural symbolism. They are sought after worldwide by collectors and lovers of oriental rugs. The rug is in original vintage condition. It has signs of age-related wear, minor losses in the fleece, abrasions that create its unique style. Before shipping, the rug will be professionally cleaned and ready for use.
