1890s Antique Turkish Oushak Rug with Tree of Life Design
About the Item
77092, antique Turkish Oushak Rug with with tree of life design and Mediterranean style. Showcasing a directional layout and beguiling beauty, this hand knotted wool antique Turkish Oushak rug imparts a sense of warmth and welcomed informality.It features an all-over rectilinear flowering branch tree of life pattern on an abrashed field. The tree of life motif extends from the bottom to the top with its rectilinear branches displaying palmettes, curved sickle leaves, stylized florals, and leafy tendrils covering the field. The tree of life motif is one of the most widespread motifs in oriental rugs and is seen to represent the connecting link between heaven and earth. The antique Oushak rug is framed with a complementary palmette, flowering leaf pattern, and tree of life border flanked with an inner and outer guard band. There is also a Kufic cartouche inscription at the bottom of the rug. Stately with a bit of whimsical decadence and luminous warm hues, this antique Oushak rug will bring subtle panache to nearly any space.
