This 5x7 antique Bessarabian rug is a rich and exciting new collectible from Rug & Kilim’s collection—one of few unique pieces of its provenance, hand-knotted in wool and originating from Turkey circa 1920-1930. On the Design Designers and admirers of the craft alike will particularly appreciate this rug’s design—one of the best and most versatile one can find in antique rugs and flatweaves of its period, and all-the-more impressive considering its level of love, detail, and overall sophistication. This grand work seems to exemplify those of its lineage while subtly innovating the style to a keen eye. Made with meticulous craftsmanship, the piece showcases a commanding central medallion framed by an ornate floral border—a hallmark of traditional Bessarabian design. The symmetrical layout radiates from the center, guiding the eye through a rich tapestry of botanical motifs and stylized vines. This particular medallion style bears a subtle similarity to European cartouches, enjoying rare greens playing with bright red and a brown border.
