About the Item
8'8 x 9'9. The pile of this light colored Oushak carpet is not sheep wool but the much more lustrous, long staple hair of the Angora goat. As a result the light side- dark side contrast of this piece is accentuated. The large scale pattern revolves around a leafy center, embedded in a close scatter of various palmette, curvy leaves and floral sprays, all on a rust ground. A matching border has striking high lights in powder blue. The almost square size is uncommon in decorative rugs of this period. The large-scale and soft colors are particularly popular with designers.
