Antique Orange and Pink Osuhak Wool Runner 4'11''x22'4''

About the Item

This exceptional hand-knotted wool runner is a rare and highly desirable piece for long corridors, gallery walls, or open-plan interiors. Woven by artisans, the rug presents a series of connected geometric medallions flowing down the length of a warm coral-red ground—each medallion subtly shifting in hue from ivory to pale blue to slate, adding rhythm and depth to the overall design. The central field is punctuated by diamond-shaped motifs inside larger, shield-like medallions with small floral details, symbolizing protection, prosperity, and continuity—common themes in Anatolian weaving traditions. As the medallions progress vertically, their coloration evolves from ivory and gold to soft lavender and denim blue, giving the rug a beautiful sense of movement and storytelling. The border features an angular tribal repeat in contrasting tones of orange, pink, blue, and black, with stylized motifs that resemble ram’s horns and geometric vines. This strong frame enhances the symmetry of the piece and anchors the bold central elements. Key Features: Origin: Anatolia Material: Premium Wool Technique: Hand-Knotted Dimensions: 4'11'' x 22'4" Design: Vertical Geometric Medallions with Tribal Floral Accents Color Palette: Orange, Pink, Blue, and Brown Border: Angular Tribal Motifs in Earthy Neutrals This rare runner rug is not only a functional textile but also a piece of woven history—perfect for collectors and designers seeking a dramatic, one-of-a-kind statement for extended spaces.

Usak carpets, Ushak carpets or Oushak carpets (Turkish: Usak Kilimi) are Turkish carpets that use a particular family of designs, called by convention after the city of Usak, Turkey, one of the larger towns in Western Anatolia, which was a major center of rug production from the early days of the Ottoman Empire, into the early 20th century (although these patterns were woven in other regions also. After the 17th century, Ushaks (Ovshaks), development of Oushak rug weaving is less well known. Late 17th century saw a decline in the Oriental rug market as European consumers tended to purchase rugs of European origin – primarily Aubusson, Savonnerie and Axminster. The wane in the European market meant that Ovshak production declined. Those that were still made throughout the late 18th and early 19th centuries were manufactured for upper-class people in the Turkish territories on Eastern Europe. Towards the end of the 19th century, when the European market began to be interested in Persian carpets once again, the Ushak (Ovshak) population did not have enough weavers still skilled in the traditional Ovshak craft. Manufactories had to turn to neighboring villages and their craftsmen who still maintained traditional techniques. Ushak carpets, particularly those known as lotto carpets...
