Antique Rare 19th Century Smokey Cinnamon Turkish Oushak Area Rug
About the Item
This exceptional 19th century Oushak carpet from western Turkey is a striking example of timeless elegance and bold design. The rug features an unusually oversized border, framing a field of cinnamon red that immediately draws the eye. At its center, a small floating medallion anchors the composition, surrounded by oversized Ottoman motifs that feel remarkably modern in their scale and abstraction.
The color palette is rich, yet soft with earthy terracotta red, golden yellow, and subtle touches of blue-green, lending depth and warmth. These nuanced tones, combined with the airy spacing of the design, give the piece a relaxed sophistication, perfect for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
This carpet is in good condition for its age, with areas of low piles consistent with its 19th century origin. It is structurally sound, sturdy and entirely serviceable – ready to add character and authenticity to your space.
This piece comes from Joseph Carini's Private Reserve Collection. On his travels around the world, Carini has curated a collection of fine and rare vintage textiles and rugs. He is enamored by ancient techniques, natural dyes, and cultural symbology.
Joseph Carini is the founder and designer of Carini Carpets.
