Antique Turkish Transitional Geometric Yellow Wool Kilim Rug by Rug & Kilim
About the Item
Originating from Turkey in the 1900s, this antique transitional Kilim rug features seldom-seen Turkish symbolism throughout its wrapping border. Flat-woven in high quality, durable wool, the pictorial field design strongly resembles a natural scene of yurts or huts on a rustic green hill against a blue sky, surrounded by a golden-yellow innermost border of spiritual star motifs. Complementing this domestic scene are multicolored motifs in the rich burgundy border meant to a bride’s hair band(s), representing the desire to marry. This piece is also one of a select number of Turkish antique with mirrored fringes on the upper and lower guard borders, whereas the vertical borders host perfectly mirrored, geometric tribal floral branches.
