About the Item
Contemporary handmade Turkish area rug from high-quality sheep’s wool and colored with eco-friendly vegetable dyes that are proven safe for humans and pets alike. It’s a Donegal design showcasing a beige field with beautiful gray and green floral details. It’s a lovely piece that should be featured in modern and contemporary spaces. It has a dimension of 8’4” x 13’4” which is an ideal size for living and dining areas
Donegal rugs were originally produced in Ireland in the late 1890s by a Scottish textile merchant named Alexander Morton who produced machine-made rugs. With handmade Persian rugs dominating the market, Morton wanted to produce his own versions which led him to the port town of Donegal. Here he hired workers to make carpets using popular styles found in oriental rugs. Ironically, many Persian and Turkish rug weavers decided to make their own Donegal-styled pieces which many experts say are of better quality.
