Extremely Fine Turkish Silk Herekeh Rug 6'5'' x 9'6''. A lightly-toned, finely woven Turkish city small carpet in as strongly Kirman-influenced style. The sandy-straw semi-open field shows a complex medallion of flower sprays, boteh leaves, serrated sickle leaves, palmettes and a central light blue-edged octofoil sub-medallion. Arcing flower sprays edge the extended corners. Cream main border with doubled forked arabesques and two types of reversing palmettes. Finer weave than comparable Kermans. Pale blue accents. Very good condition.

The handmade carpet manufacturing of these masterpieces luxury rugs began late the 19th century. This oriental rug was woven in Asian Anatolia, Turkey in the historic city of Hereke. In the mid-19th century, Sultan Abdul Majid proclaimed Hereke to be the royal weaving village. The silk rugs were woven there were considered the finest in the world.
