About the Item
This vintage patchwork rug is skillfully composed from handwoven flatweave fragments dating back to the early-20th century. Originating from villages across Konya, Malatya, and Kayseri, this rug were traditionally woven by nomadic women using narrow looms and naturally dyed wool. The patchwork construction preserves and repurposes these antique pieces, giving them a second life as a unified, one-of-a-kind design. The visible aging and abrash throughout each panel speak to the authenticity and rich heritage of weaving.
The rug features a soft, sun-faded palette of red, orange, indigo, olive, pink, yellow, black, and white. Within the various panels are timeworn tribal symbols—such as ram’s horns for strength, fertility motifs, and protective amulets—all once woven with intention and meaning. The hand-stitched whip seams between panels enhance the artisanal character of the piece while providing durable reinforcement.
