Additional Information: Kurdish village runner made for home use, a rare find in the big city bazaars. Flat woven rug has traditional, local bold patterns and colors. Kurdish people use bright colors like pink and orange to ward off the Evil Eye. Acquired in situ from local markets in southeast Turkey. Photography note: The front and back sides of this textile piece are nearly identical. The reverse side is shown in the image with the rug pointing towards the upper right. Provenance: Personal collection of Saul Barodofsky, a retired expert in Turkish arts and culture. For over thirty years, his import firm Sun Bow Trading Co. provided most of the rugs sold in The Mezzanine Gallery Shop at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
