About the Item

Makri rugs were originally thought to have been woven on the island of Rhodes, when in fact they were made in the seacoast village of Megri (now changed to Fethiye) in southwestern Anatolia. Even though the population of this town was small, it was the largest shipping port in the region. Most of the rugs woven here have distinctive patterns of one to three vertical panels in the field, often ornamented with stylized, angular flora. This rug has a simple, yet refined, design all within an outer ivory stylized rosette border. 5' 10" x 3' 2".
