Vintage Abstract Modernist Kilim Rug

About the Item

Woven by the Kurdish people inhabiting the region between eastern Anatolia and the southern Caucasus, this sturdily woven small sized kilim was possibly a sofreh, which means that it was used as a presentation textile onto which they would offer food to their guests in the tent. The large scale, eye-dazzler pattern employed however takes it into the realm of modern and minimalist design and it is yet another example of the ancient modernity of tribal textile art.
