Pair of Ivory French Modernist Design Wool Rugs

About the Item

This pair of rugs is characteristic of the French moderne style, which developed throughout the Forties until well into the Post World War II period. This style owes much to the past by virtue of its impeccable construction, yet looks at the future in its attempt at developing an innovative iconography. Both rug are monogrammed with a symbol similar to the profile of a house, most probably representing a French design firm of the period. For further reading please refer to J. Sirat, F. Siriex, 'Tapis Français du XX Siècle', Paris 1993, pp. 110-137.
