19th Century French Napoleon III Period Painted Wingback Armchair ~ Bergere
About the Item
19th Century French Napoleon III Period Painted Wingback Armchair ~ Bergere with cut silk velvet was literally designed to provide the utmost in comfort! The neoclassical architecture of the framework includes a subtly arched seat back crown that transitions to "wings" that envelope the shoulders, combining with the fully upholstered armrests prevent drafts and keep away winter's chill. Adorning the scrolled armrest supports and tapered & fluted legs are fine molding details including pyramidal rosettes, all highlighted in gold to provide accentuation and contrast against the patinaed light gray painted finish. What is immediately captivating, however, is the luxurious cut silk velvet upholstery that remains in very good condition, even on the back side which allows one to place this magnificent piece in the middle of a room if so desired!
