About the Item

Available today, these beautiful chairs with armrests were designed by Jorge Jabour for Cantù Móveis e Interiores Ltda. in the 1960s. Each chair features a structure entirely made in Brazilian rosewood, known as Jacaranda and has a cushion in a delicate and soft boucle. The inclined back makes this piece not only beautiful but comfortable. This model was manufactured with seats in cane or fabric, and it was part of a collection focused, at the same time, on residences and offices. The rosewood has aged beautifully and has been expertly refinished displaying colorful wood veins. The cushion is new also. The price is per chair and we have 4 available. About the designer: Architects Jorge Jabour Mauad and Osires Cunha Meale were responsible for designing for Cantù Móveis e Interiores Ltda. This production represents a vast production of Brazilian furniture designed by architects and manufactured by small companies in the 1960s. The specialists were responsible for conducting studies and projects for interior installations, using Brazilian Rosewood, marbles, leathers, and national fabrics in its manufacture. The last image is a 1960’s product catalogue showcasing the piece.

These elegant low armchairs consist of a hardwood structure with re-upholstered loose cushions. Besides the small marks of time, the piece is in excellent condition. Also, very comfortable. Owning a piece designed by Joaquim Tenreiro is not just about acquiring a beautiful piece of furniture; it's also about possessing a part of Brazilian design history and culture. These set is a testament to Tenreiro's futuristic vision about Modernism and it would make an excellent addition to any interior space that values and appreciates the significance of this design. This model is called “L-shape” and is a great example of Tenreiro’s modernistic approach towards simplifying shapes, contrary to elaborate European standards, still in fashion during the fifties in Brazil. He achieves this by using rectangular shapes and no armrest...
