About the Item
A typical piece of Carlo Hauner's design from the 1950s, this armchair rests on four conical legs, known in Brazilian as "Pè palito". The wide, curved backrest gives it depth while the seat that rises up over the armrests provides comfort and cocoon-like appeal.
Covered in a soft blue denim cotton, the color contrasts nicely with the caviuna wood of the legs, the two of it located at the back offer a very sharp angle giving dynamism and balance to the whole.
Carlo Hauner (1927-1996) arrived in Brazil in 1948. He encountered the Brazilian modernist context of the mid-twentieth century, full of optimism due to the economic and social progress linked to the end of the Second World War. Of Italian origin, he settled in the cosmopolitan city of São Paulo and immediately founded the company "Moveis Artesanal" in 1950, in order to produce modern furniture and meet the demand of architects such as Lina Bo Bardi and Gregori Warchavchik.
The new techniques and materials brought about by modernization and the new modern architecture created in the spirit of innovation inherent in the modernist ideology prompted the creation of new furniture to integrate this new atmosphere.
Hauner, who had studied technical and artistic design at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, was the company's main designer until 1953, when the Austrian-born architect Martins Eisler (1913-1977), who lived in Argentina, arrived in Brazil. The meeting and partnership of Hauner and Eisler began when Eisler, who had come to Brazil to develop an interior design project, placed an order for furniture with Moveis Artesanal.
Although it was a success thanks to their great creativity and was a reference for several other Brazilian designers, in 1955 Moveis Artesanal was restructured and changed to Forma and Carlo Hauner dissociated himself from the company.

Mid-Century 366 Armchair in Blue Velvet, by Jozef Chierowski, Europe 1960s
By Jozef Chierowski
Located in 05-080 Hornowek, PL
The 366 armchair is an icon of the polish design of the PRL period.
The famous armchair was designed in 1962 by the Polish interior designer and furniture designer Jozef Marian Chierowski. Produced in the Lower Silesian Furniture Factory in Swiebodzice.
The chair has a simple, modernist form. It consists of an upholstered seat combined with a wooden backrest. The organic shape is typical of the 1960s style.
The chair is very ergonomic and comfortable, as the furniture designs of that time were largely focused on the user. Due to its small size, the furniture fits perfectly into the interiors of contemporary apartments, perfectly meeting the needs of customers.
The chair is in perfect condition after a professional renovation. We can prepare this set also in another wood and fabric color. Please check color samples on the last pictures.
About the fabric:
This is special collection of velvet in a stunning color range of more than 100 different shades of both pure classic and non-obvious pastel broken colors. The colour palette has been created with extreme attention following the most recent trends. The unique feature of this fabric is its producing in nanotechnologies, so called WATER CLEAN, which gives it a high resistance to stains and facilitates the removal of stains from coffee, chocolate and even ink. This fabric is a perfect imitation of cotton velvet, gives the effect of softness and matte surface which works very well in heavy curtains...
