From the very first look at the original model, it was clear that in addition to the materials and feel, the design also radiated timeless modernity and optimum comfort: The softly upholstered seat shell provides the necessary
stability, the enthroned look ensures perfect seating comfort, and the curved armrest lends the armchair the necessary sculptural sophistication.
The DS-55 radiates the passion with which our founder Ernst Lüthy and his companions created furniture. The simple elegance and the great love of leather were always in the foreground. Today, you can still feel the passion for craftsmanship and the perfected work of the upholsterers with every moment you spend in a DS-55. In order to pass on the enthusiasm for high-quality leather furniture to the next generations, De Sede gives the new DS-55 a small facelift. The once leather trumpet foot gives way to a modern, slim star stand. Especially the ergonomic features have been adapted and the Classic DS-55 has been given a new, future-proof life.
The light, casual high-backed chair is the gift that the De Sede design team not only offers to the manufactory on the occasion of its 55th anniversary, but also enables customers the opportunity to experience a piece of Swiss craftsmanship anew.
The revitalization of the DS-55 is a heartfelt project, which, on the occasion of De Sede's 55th anniversary, reflects the passion for leather sculptures that is still lived day after day. The seat shell pleasantly embraces the sitter and provides the right stability, while the soft armrests invite you to relax and reflect on past and future. Characteristic of the DS-55 is the lounge-like design language, which brings the values of timeless design, highest leather quality and unique craftsmanship to the point in a re-edition. Adapted to the current desires for comfortable seating, the DS-55 with its optionally available stool is ready for the future and at the same time a jewel of the De Sede history.

A de Sede piece lends a strong personality to the room it occupies. One of the world’s most respected furniture design houses, de Sede’s quality Swiss craftsmanship has its foundation in a long history of making expertly designed saddles. Founded in 1965 to build on a successful family-run saddler’s workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland, de Sede now is a leading manufacturer of leather goods and furniture, including sofas, chairs and beds.
At the core of de Sede’s philosophy is a reverence for the complexity and beauty of handcrafted furniture in an age when mass-produced objects are the norm. Over the years, the atelier has built a name for itself in its modular furniture pieces, which are made using the highest quality leather upholstery. The sleek, elegant pieces incorporate functionality with beauty. Amongst their best-selling designs is the DS-600 introduced in 1972. Also known as the Non Stop sofa, it is a sensually curved, snaking modular sofa whose individual pieces can be zipped together to create multiple variations and arcs.
De Sede has collaborated with some of the world's finest design minds, enhancing the prestige and individuality of their products. Designers like Santiago Calatrava, Antonella Scarpitta, Stephan Hürlemann, Gordon Guillaumier and Philippe Malouin have all created pieces with the atelier. Ubald Klug’s 1974 DS-1025, also known as the Terrazza sofa, is an enduring favorite with its cascading levels of leather. In 2017, de Sede expanded its product line to include high-quality leather handbags, which are as thoughtfully designed and beautifully crafted as its furniture. De Sede AG is now part of the Volare Group AG and continues to handcraft its fine furniture and other goods from its factory in Klingnau.

FSM Rex chair by De Sede. The armchair Rex revolutionizes the act of sitting. Like the De Sede model DS-343, the armchair Rex is based on a patented seat study developed over the last two decades by seat expert and physical therapist Bart Van der Heyden. Rex is an armchair that moves with the movements of the person seated. Changes in posture are not just permitted but even encouraged. The armchair presents itself in a novel architecture. The seat shell does not stop at the backrest as usual but extends to pelvis height instead. This is not only a stylish design element but the elementary basis for this sitting revolution. With the extended seat shell, the person seated assumes a different posture when leaning back: if you lean backwards, only the upper part of the backrest moves backwards. Following the movements of the body, this provides gentle support to the spine and the chest opens automatically. The person seated immediately feels a more open posture, which is accompanied by a freedom of sitting.

Upholstery and assembly: SEDEX upholstery with SEDE-Lux padding. High-quality strap suspension. Seat, back and armrest with supporting metal structure and integrated gas pressure spring suspension. Thread color tone on tone.
