About the Item
A handsome and most decorative pair of French early 19th century Empire Period patinated Wood and Giltwood armchairs. Each wonderful armchair are raised by two front circular tapered baluster shaped off white patinated legs with top and bottom Giltwood bands, while the back legs are slightly tapered with a square shape. The curved front apron is decorated by a central Giltwood rosette flanked by branches of berried laurel and additional rosettes. The arms are supported by most attractive and statement making Sphinges seated proudly above palmette designs and below the Giltwood bordered arms. The rectangular slanted back has a similar Giltwood trim on the sides and bottom, while the top is decorated with a Giltwood reserve designed similarly to the apron. Exquisite designs, proportions, and upholstered in a beautiful green leather with antique nails.
