About the Item

Favela Chair by Campana Brothers for Edra, 1994 Designed by Fernando and Humberto Campana, the Favela Chair is a remarkable example of their groundbreaking approach to design and craftsmanship. Handcrafted with numerous hand-nailed strips of pine wood, this chair’s random arrangement ensures that no two pieces are exactly alike. Its frameless construction and natural materials give it an organic, sculptural quality, making it an iconic work of functional art. This particular model, crafted in pine wood for indoor use, was purchased at the Edra Shop in London in 1994 and is one of the earliest productions of the design. To enhance its functionality and comfort, the previous owner commissioned a custom-made brown leather cushion for both back and bottom support, making the chair more suitable for extended use without compromising its aesthetic appeal. Although it appears simple, the Favela Chair requires a week of meticulous handcrafting, reflecting the manual expertise and attention to detail synonymous with the Campana Brothers. Its beauty lies in the harmony of natural materials and innovative design, transforming everyday materials into luxurious and collectible pieces. This chair is not just a functional item but a bold artistic statement, perfect for those who appreciate the marriage of creativity and craftsmanship.

One-of-a-Kind Contemporary Aziza Easy Chair by Hugo França, Brazil 2017
By Hugo França
Located in Deerfield Beach, FL
This lounge chair is an unique piece in pequi wood made in Brazil in 2017, by contemporary designer Hugo França, famous for his sculptural furniture using reclaimed wood and preserving the organic forms of the tree. This piece was originally a canoe manufactured by the Pataxó indigenous people, in south of Bahia, Brazil. In the early 80s, Hugo França abandoned his previous career as an industrial engineer in São Paulo to be closer to nature, moving to Trancoso, Bahia. Witnessing from up-close the rampant destruction of the local Atlantic Forest greatly impacted him, motivating his current work as a designer. França reverences the very trees salvaged by him as his main inspiration; he works intuitively, allowing his creative process to be guided by each tree’s organic...
