About the Item
An excellent pair of Louis XVI open armchairs painted off white upholstered in a silk velvet with a tiger pattern; each is signed S.BRIZARD (Sulpice Brizard became a master in 1762). The arched top back rail is carved with a gadrooning and is flanked by leaf-carved finials that est on the rising arms. These are supported on fluted and reeded urn-shaped risers. The bowed seat rail is flanked by floral carved imposts above tapered, fluted legs. 18th c , Upholstery from 1983 in world famous silk “Tiger Velvet”. These antique chairs are a brilliant example of Brizard’s talent in combining elegance, proportions and the fine detail of the carvings. Minor fading, due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1780, Paris.
