Mid-Century 1955 Vintage Carlo hauner Armchair

About the Item

Carlo Hauner was originally from Italy and studied as a painter. In 1948, he successfully participated in the Venice Biennale when he moved to Brazil and dedicated himself to design, ceramics, and textile. Alongside Martin Eisler he was the primary designer for the iconic Brazilian furniture company Forma, which focused on industrial processes of production. He constantly turned to the use of thin metal frames and Brazilian wood. This armchair demonstrates Hauner’s taste for simple but bold pieces. The wide, curved backrest separated from the smaller armrests creates contrast and balance. The style is modern yet clearly designed with function in mind, another characteristic of Hauner’s style. Luxuriously upholstered, this armchair is a typical piece of Carlo Hauner's design from the 1950s. Literature: M. Vasconcellos, M. L. Braga, Aeroplano (ed.), Móvel Brasileiro Moderno, São Paulo 2012, p.203.
