Pair of Late 19th Century Venetian Armchairs, Restyled with Dedar Milano Bouclé

About the Item

A refined pair of late 19th-century Venetian armchairs, finely hand-carved in solid walnut, fully restored and reinterpreted with a contemporary sensibility. The seats have been reupholstered in luxurious bouclé by Dedar Milano, offering a rich tactile presence and elegant contrast to the original woodwork. The openwork backrests feature an intricate “8 veneziano” scroll motif, a hallmark of late 19th-century Venetian design. This decorative carving of interlaced volutes is both sculptural and symbolic, evoking the refined artistry of the region. The armchairs display flowing, sinuous lines throughout: from the gracefully contoured armrests to the shaped front and rear legs, all in perfect stylistic continuity. A model of similar form was chosen by Luigi Caccia Dominioni for his home, Casa Caccia Dominioni in Milan (1947), as documented in "Nelle Case. Milan Interiors from 1928–1978." Their inclusion in that modernist environment underscores the versatility and timelessness of these designs, even alongside mid-century pieces. A unique pairing of historic Italian craftsmanship and contemporary elegance, these armchairs are both collectors' items and functional sculptures.
