Rare & matching vintage set of 6 Leather Dining Chairs by De Couro of Brazil

About the Item

Set of 6 De Couro Black Leather Dining Chairs – Brazilian Modern Icons (1980s) A rare and elegant set of six dining chairs from Brazil, this collection by De Couro of Brazil represents a refined example of late 20th-century South American design. Produced in the 1980s, these chairs echo the modernist ethos of form meeting function—bridging sculptural minimalism with artisanal craftsmanship. Structural Purity, Leather-Wrapped Architecture Each chair is constructed with a steel internal frame and fully wrapped in thick, saddle-grade black leather, including the squared backrest, seat, and all four legs. The upholstery is hand-stitched, creating a seamless silhouette that recalls the essence of the Cassina CAB 413 chair by Mario Bellini. Like the CAB, the De Couro chair treats leather not as a cover but as an integral design element—a skin stretched over a skeleton. Like the CAB’s signature zippered seams, these chairs opt for a subtler stitching approach, reinforcing their handmade quality and sculptural restraint. Aged Character, Authentic Patina The leather on these chairs shows a well-developed natural patina, including surface scuffs, tonal variation, and marks—all consistent with over 40 years of age and considered part of their vintage charm. One chair has a cracked seat plate, which does not affect the seating comfort or structural integrity. The set remains fully functional, tactile, and visually striking.
