Set of Four 18th Century French Louis XVI Period Giltwood and Aubusson Armchairs

About the Item

This set of four French Louis XVI period gilt wood armchairs boasts their original Aubusson tapestry seats and backs featuring four different pastoral figures on the seat backs and dogs on the seats. Aubusson tapestries were a competitor in the eighteenth century to the well known Gobelins and Beauvais producers. This classic set features medallion backs detailed with a hand carved crossed ribbon motif with flowers at the crown. Their fluted arms with scrolled armrests are detailed with acanthus leaves and Egyptian water leaves. The die joints are detailed with rosettes and rest on tapered fluted legs additionally detailed with acanthus leaves. c. 1780. A rare set of four in excellent condition.
